All positions are voluntary. You'll be working in the same team with Marita Cheng, the founder of Robogals and Young Australian of the Year 2012.

Science Challenge Manager

Duties/responsibilities

  • Promote the Science Challenge and get lots of people to enter!
  • Respond to email queries from members of the public about the Science Challenge.
  • Organise the award ceremony.
  • Ensure the overall smooth running of the Science Challenge.

Robogals Rural and Regional: Project Manager and Assistant Project Manager

Robogals Rural and Regional (RRR) brings promotion of women in science, engineering and technology to rural and regional areas within Australia. It works by getting female engineering students from regional universities around the country to a leadership training weekend in Melbourne, then they will go back to their regional city and visit schools there over the following months to talk about engineering.

Duties/responsibilities

  • Run two training weekends, one in April and one in August, each for around 20-30 university students from regional universities around Australia.
  • Mentor and support those engineering students in visiting schools to make presentations about engineering.

We will select one person as Project Manager and one person as Assistant Project Manager, and you can indicate a preference for either one. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions!

Required skills and experience

  • Great communication skills
  • Great organisational skills
  • Lots of motivation and persistence
  • It is not required that you know how to do everything we listed now - you will be trained in executing most of these tasks, and you will learn a lot in the coming year!

Working hours/days

  • Work in your own time, 10-15 hours a week
  • You will not be required to do anything over the exam period; flexible with heavy assignment periods
  • Fortnightly team meeting during semester; and individual meetings as required
  • Role starts as soon as possible, and continues to the end of 2012. All of these roles will be available next year if you would like to continue!
