What's Robogals?

Robogals is an outreach program that visits schools to run robotics workshops, mostly for girls, to introduce "engineering" into their vocabulary and show them the amazing possibilities of engineering and technology careers. Robogals is run entirely by college students, and has grown from our humble beginnings in Melbourne, Australia to have chapters at 16 universities across Australia, the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands!

Other than the requirement to run the basic outreach program, Robogals chapters are given a high degree of autonomy, and we've seen our chapters take the initiative to run cool events like science fairs, set up stalls at expos and science museums and of course had plenty of social events for all our dedicated volunteers.

Robogals' achievements have been recognised on an international level with the awarding of an Anita Borg Change Agent Award by the US-based Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology.

So how do I get involved?

Robogals is coming to the USA, and we want you to help start a Robogals chapter at your college! It's as simple as:

1. Apply online through this website to be a member of the inaugural Robogals committee at your college, in one of the six positions.
2. Be interviewed by phone.
3. If accepted, attend the 3-day SINE (Seminars Inducting New Executive-committees) at California Institute of Technology (Caltech) to be held 25-27 February 2012. We'll teach you everything you need to know to get your Robogals chapter started, as well as have heaps of fun, and even visit NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory while we're at it. The weekend will be led by Robogals founder Marita Cheng and other experienced Robogals members. You need to get yourself there, but then we'll provide all your food, accommodation and activities!
4. Finally, return home and get started with inspiring the next generation of female engineers.
